Our Story

About Us

Found on the Adige River in Northeast Italy, the town of Verona is renowned for its stunning architecture, romantic stories, and artistic heritage. Each year, multitudes of visitors arrive in the ancient city; some fall in love under Juliet’s Balcony, others to live in the past at the Verona Arena, but everyone comes to experience the food. At the city’s informal trattorias, you can find food that is honest and spirited and distinctly Verona. Generations of families, pairs of lovers, and groups of friends gather not only for a meal but for the pure enjoyment that an evening of exceptional food, memorable conversation, and togetherness brings.

With our thoughtfully chosen menu and locally sourced ingredients, Verona strives to deliver cuisine that is fresh and uncomplicated, yet unique and refined; honest and spirited food and drinks that our nearby neighbors and out-of-town guests will remember not only as delicious but also want to bring their loved ones back to experience for themselves.

So, linger over brunch with your friends, flirt over one more glass of wine, or share a dessert with someone special, because you’re in Verona and it’s time to vivi la bella vita.

Executive Chef
Salvatore Borgia

Salvatore (Sam) Borgia started his culinary career at age 11, working at his family restaurant, Giuseppe’s Café, in Macomb Township.

Chef Sam is a proud first-generation American who learned how to prepare traditional Italian dishes by working side-by-side with his father, Giuseppe Borgia. Giuseppe helped Sam to develop all the necessary traits to run a successful restaurant: providing exceptional customer service, attention to quality and detail, and operating a clean and safe kitchen. Giuseppe’s focus on customer and employee satisfaction was constant. Chef Sam continues to live these core values to this day.

Giuseppe’s Café closed amid the economic recession in the late 2000s, allowing Salvatore to branch out and open his restaurant, Siciliano’s, in Clinton Township, Michigan. Siciliano’s was open for two years before Chef Sam chose to take a step back and recenter his priorities. Joining the team at a local mainstay as an Executive Chef, Sam continued to develop himself professionally, growing the business to one of the premier eateries in Metro Detroit.

After reaffirming his commitment to Christ and his family, Chef Sam was presented with the opportunity to join the team at the Verona family of restaurants as the Corporate Executive Chef, overseeing the menu development and operations of all locations. Chef Sam resides in Romeo with his lovely wife Noelle and their 2 daughters Valentina and Liliana. He is passionate about gardening, growing San Marzano tomatoes, grapes, cucuzza from Sicily and his chickens which provide fresh eggs daily!
